Licences

The VOLO system uses licences to monitor and control devices connected to the VOLO cloud.

Types of Licence

There are two licence types within VOLO:

Controller Licences are required for each Master Controller active within your system.

SIM or Airtime Licences are required for each VOLO modem active within your system.

Licence Expiry

It is important to maintain active licences on all of your live VOLO installations. Licence renewals can be organised through your Installer or contact at CIE.

caution

Allowing your licences to expire will result in reduced functionality of your VOLO system.

Controller Licences

VOLO Controller Licenses are required for each master controller you have deployed in your estate.

What is the licence for?

The licence and associated fee entitles the product owner to connect the device to the VOLO cloud and use the system to configure and manage it (and any connected Expansion devices).

You must have an available licence to make use of a VOLO master controller.

What happens if my Controller Licence expires?

When a VOLO controller licence expires, any configuration data saved on the controller will remain intact, and you will retain access to the VOLO cloud.

However, you will not be able to change any configuration settings or interact with your controller in any way. This means that your system will not be responsive to management commands, fault finding and resolutions, or adjustments.

  • No commands can be sent to the Master controller OR any attached Expansion controllers, for example:
    • Unlock door cannot be used
    • Changes to schedules
    • Granting or revoking access to users, including adding or deleting users
    • Clearing an active fire alarm (resetting the fire alarm)
    • Any other commands
  • Any events generated after the licence has expired will be permanently deleted and cannot be recovered. Any data from the period of licence inactivity will be lost.
  • A site visit may be required to restore the controller if the licences have been inactive for too long.

SIM Licences

VOLO SIM Licences are required for each VOLO modem you have deployed in your estate.

What is the licence for?

The licence and associated fee entitles the product owner to use cellular networks to connect their VOLO controller to the VOLO cloud.

This is not essential, but if you wish to use the VOLO modem either as the primary method of communication or as an automatic fail over, then you must have a SIM licence.

What happens if my SIM Licence expires?

When a VOLO SIM licence expires, there is no impact on any of your controllers or your ability to configure and interact with them provided that your controller has a working Ethernet/Local network connection.

If you allow your SIM licence to expire, the SIM card will be automatically suspended, and you will not be able to use the VOLO modem to connect to the VOLO cloud.

If you renew the licence or attach a new licence to the controller in the VOLO system, then the SIM will be reactivated.
